  1. The Southeastern Mass. group found it to be a really rewarding genre study (Diversity in Reader’s Advisory) last year. You’re going to love it, I bet!

  2. Romance Diversity – Second Title
    Galen, Shana – Third sons a charm
    Series: Survivors #1
    Pace: fast; Characters: well-developed: likeable; flawed; sympathetic;
    Story: Character driven; Language: engaging; Tone: Strong sense of place; suspenseful; humor; Frame: London, Regency 1816
    At the end of the Napoleonic Wars, many soldiers are trying to integrate back into peacetime and find useful paths for their lives. This is particularly true of a group of younger sons of the British nobility, the expendable ‘spares,’ especially those of Draven’s Dozen. Ewan Mostyn is survivor of Lt. Col. Draven’s company, one of the 12 out of 30 who tackled the most dangerous actions. He is working as a bouncer at a gambling hell when he is hired as the bodyguard for the Earl of Pembroke’s daughter Lady Lorraine Caldwell.

    Pembroke is concerned that Lady Lorraine may try to pursue a relationship with Frances Mostyn (Ewan’s hated and hateful cousin) who is both greedy and dishonorable. He is certain that Frances is only sincerely attached to Lorraine’s fortune.

    During Ewan’s youth, Frances tormented him for his stupidity, his inability to read – what we have now learned to call dyslexia. This is an interesting aspect of our hero. Most are handsome, strong and talented. Ewan has all of those qualities, but his inability to read has led him to believe he is stupid.

    Lady Lorraine is strong-willed and impatient and a poor reader of Frances’ character, but she does grow to admire her bodyguard and recognizes his issue. Her sensitivity and his vulnerability add dimension to this story. Recommended.
